Dr. Lantican’s efforts in plant breeding have led off the release of notable varieties which are now commercially grown by farmers in the Philippines and many parts of Asia. The plant types evolved in the Philippines were used as parents in the breeding program of the Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center (AVRDC) in Taiwan.

Dr. Lantican finished his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in the UP Los Baños in 1954, master’s degree in Crop Science in the North Carolina State College in 1956, and doctorate degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics in the Iowa State University in 1961.
