Eye savings with energy audit

The talk on energy conservation is prevalent and has shown interest among business owners as this lessen operational costs while maintaining a sustainable, green environment.

An energy audit is often an overlooked and undervalued factor in business operations. While they may be thought of as ineffective in daily business operations as production control, it is, however, the contrary. Basically, energy audits are a great way to save money while aiming for sustainable consumption.

The audit provides business owners a clear understanding of energy consumption in their firms and facilities and can act as a reference for their management in making business decisions. Like their costs in consumption can now be directed in other production line of the business.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Energy Audit Program critically assesses and reduces the operating costs of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by bringing the best information, improvement and management strategies in conserving and using energy more efficiently.

A diverse range of MSMEs industry sectors have availed and experienced improved energy and production efficiency from DOST energy audit services: food processing, agriculture, furniture, gifts and holiday decors (GHD), metals and engineering, technology, and pharmaceuticals/health products.

DOST interventions include training on energy efficiency, conservation and management, conduct of Energy Audit, generation of energy efficiency improvement strategies, equipment improvement, process improvement, better operational practices, and proper energy use and conservation.

These training courses and consultancy services can be conducted to meet specific requirements of owners. Experts tapped are deployed to discuss the most appropriate direction of the business or impart new knowledge for a firm or individual working towards certification or requiring technical support to improve energy efficiency.

Activities include inception reports, energy management option report, firm visits, evaluation, data collection, measurement and data analysis of existing condition and performance of energy-intensive equipment, discussion of audit findings to clients, and submission of energy audit report to client for concurrence.

Field measurements will be also taken to count operating parameters. With audits, the potential energy saving opportunities can be identified. Energy management strategy and particular energy reduction programs can be organized and discussed with reference to the audit results. DOST works with the beneficiaries so they can enjoy the benefits of:

  • Lower energy bills.
  • Improved energy security.
  • Increased competitiveness.
  • Reduced energy imports.
  • Improved comfort.
  • Better health and safety.
  • Maintains a sustainable environment.
  • Conservation of limited resources.
  • Reduced GHG and other emissions.
